Dear friends,
I would like to share this extraordinary interview with an extraordinary scientist with you.
Àlex Gómez-Marín holds a Ph.D. in theoretical physics; he is a neuroscientist and philosopher, director of the Laboratory of Organism Behavior at the Instituto de Neurociencias de Alicante, and director of the Pari Center (you can also find the link to the Pari Center on my website, under the menu tab with links ‘Science and New Paradigm’—be sure to check out the many other links there as well!).
He is one of the leading scientists who has long been researching ESP, or Extrasensory Perception, which refers to any form of perception that does not occur through the classic five senses.
In this interview, he talks about his work with a blind man who can see, but not through his eyes. For years, experiments on ESP have been conducted, yielding spectacular results. And these experiments are carried out according to extremely strict protocols to make deception or influence impossible (See also the Musing ‘Five Sigma’).
Álex discusses this and other experiments, but the conversation expands to the implications of these results for our understanding of the phenomenon of consciousness, our metaphysics, and worldview, and Álex Gómez-Marín has exceptionally interesting insights to share on these topics as both a scientist and a philosopher.
Thanks to his broad knowledge and experience in neuroscience, theoretical physics, and the philosophy of science, Àlex Gómez-Marín is able to explore scientific developments in the study of consciousness from all these perspectives and make fascinating connections between these fields of knowledge. This makes this interview one of the most remarkable I have encountered in my research.
The subject (extrasensory perceptions) may give rise to skepticism and disbelief, but Àlex Gómez-Marín is just one of many ‘respectable’ scientists who have been researching this and other phenomena for a very long time, breaking through the taboo that still prevails in the scientific community regarding any subject that threatens the dogma of materialism (see also the musings 'Five Sigma,' 'Science and the Emerging New Paradigm', and 'A Wondrous Afternoon With an Extraordinary Scientist')
At the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS), the Division of Perceptual Studies at the University of Virginia, and the Global Consciousness Project at Princeton University, among others, experiments have been conducted for over four decades in the fields of ESP, telepathy, precognition (the ability to foresee events), psychokinesis (the influence of consciousness on the material world), and others. And for more than four decades, extraordinary results have been reported, though they still encounter forms of censorship and denial within the scientific community (see Walkie-Talkie 12 ‘What Can Mole Hills Teach Us About Science and Our Paradigm?’)
Álex is Spanish, and it shows: with great passion and fervor, but also with a keen sense of self-relativating humor, this engaging and still young scientist speaks about all these topics that fascinate him so much. The interview lasts two and three-quarters of an hour, but isn’t boring for a single second! You can also watch it in forty-minute episodes, like a miniseries on your favorite streaming service.
The first 45 minutes delve specifically into the ESP experiments, after which the conversation expands to many aspects of the philosophy of science and metaphysics. Àlex Gómez-Marín speaks clearly and in language that is accessible about insights that are quite mind-boggling if you stop to think about them for just a moment: our consciousness is non-local, the brain is a permissive rather than a productive organ, our consciousness can apparently also perceive events in the future, and consciousness is ontologically fundamental, not a byproduct of material processes.
Alex also discusses at length how young scientists can be encouraged and supported to pursue this kind of research, despite the restrictions imposed by the scientific establishment. He also addresses various aspects of a potential new worldview emerging through these developments in ‘postmaterialist’ science.
The consistently thorough and high-quality nature of all Essentia Foundation interviews once again guarantees an exceptionally fascinating conversation! Essentia Foundation was founded by Dutch-Brazilian philosopher and computer scientist Bernardo Kastrup, with the aim of developing and substantiating a theoretical framework for what is called ‘scientific or philosophical idealism’, one of the major schools of thought within philosophy and science that views consciousness as the foundation of reality, rather than matter. The foundation’s YouTube channel is a treasure trove of fascinating interviews with the greatest minds of our time. I cannot recommend this highly enough: this is one of the institutions where the foundation for a new worldview and a new civilization is being laid, still under the radar but with an impact that in the future will rival or even surpass that of Galileo, Kepler, and Newton. Àlex Gómez-Marín also says it quite literally at one point in this interview, noting that it really isn’t an exaggeration: the work that the Essentia Foundation does can help save our civilization, or better yet: help give birth to an entirely new kind of civilization.
As you can tell, I highly recommend this interview. One of the new goals in my work is to help ‘signal-boost’ information that points toward the major paradigm shifts on the horizon, and within that goal, this interview is a real gem!
Thanks for reading and watching, and see you in the next episode,
All the best to you,
Filip
