Walkie-Talkie #7 'Something About Atoms, Deer, Diagrams and Consensus Reality'

Dear friends,

This Walkie-Talkie was recorded immediately after the previous one.

I continue walking on a forest path in the province of Somogy in Hungary, close to the village where I spend a considerable part of the year, and I pick up where I left off at the end of the previous Walkie-Talkie.

I talk a little more about Alfred North Whitehead and his process philosophy, the connection with quantum physics, how the diagrams and models of atoms that we are all more or less familiar with have virtually nothing to do with the reality of atoms, and how that applies to almost all our diagrams and representations of reality.

I must make one small correction here: the quote I mentioned (“Everything we call real is made of things that cannot be regarded as real.”) is from quantum physicist Niels Bohr, not Hans-Peter Dürr.

I am briefly interrupted by a large herd of deer crossing the path right in front of me, but they quickly disappear from view, to fast for me to share that wonderful sight with you. It is something we get to experience here quite often.

I go on to talk about how people who wanted to attend Whitehead's lectures were warned that they could be ‘lured away from our consensus reality’, something I would actually like to do as well: at least tempt you to take a little distance from what you thought you knew for sure about the world, to create an opening for new perspectives on the world, on ourselves, and on the many crises we are going through. Something that will be very necessary to find a way through all those crises.

To be continued next week in Walkie-Talkie #8, because I can already reveal that I hadn't quite finished talking that evening on that path.

Thank you for joining me on this walk, and until the next episode,

All the best to you,

Filip
